On Friday 13th the Groveland Hotel presented in their concert series
at the Yosemite Courtyard Theatre, The Monkees tribute (Pleasant
Valley Sunday) along with a Beatles show (Paperback Writer) a Glenn
Henry Production. This was one of the most exciting shows I have seen
in years. Growing up in Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles in the 60's, and
attending the Monterey Pop Festival with Peter Tork and Micky Dolenz
(the original Monkees) and Micky's sister Coco Dolenz, this was
definitely a trip down memory lane. To top things off Micky's sister
Deborah Dolenz showed up for the performance! The performers had the
audience singing along and even dancing in the aisles. It was hard to
sit in your seat without swaying back and forth to the music or
standing up and moving around.
The Monkees tribute was the first half of the evening. There was a
short intermission and then the group changed from the traditional
Monkees red shirts into the Fab Four suits doing a series of early
Beatles tunes. Half way through the Beatles performance the group
then changed into their Sgt. Pepper outfits and the audience went
wild! People were on the balcony dancing the night away and no one
could sit still. After the songs from Sgt. Pepper, the finale was
"Twist and Shout" and most of the audience made a line and danced up
to the stage and around the courtyard. A special thanks to Peggy
Mosley for booking such fine talent in our area! The Groveland Hotel
has other great shows in their summer concert series. To see the list
of performers go to www.groveland.com/events.
