THE swinging sixties were alive and kicking at Whitby Pavilion when
it hosted a sixties festival.

The annual event is held twice a year in June and September and
almost 1,000 people danced the day and evening away from Friday
evening until Sunday evening.

Many dressed up in authentic costumes to get into the mood and the
bands ensured everyone was up and strutting their stuff.

People came from as far afield as Aberdeen and Canvey Island to soak
up the sounds.

Promoter Chris Wood, of Whitby Live, said every act had been
excellent including the tributes.

"It was amazing.

"The thing about the sixties is you remember all the songs," he said.

"Half the stuff now you can't remember."

And revellers won't have long until the next event. On 26, 27 and 28
September there will be another sixties festival featuring The
Animals, Swinging Blue Jeans, Hippy Hippy Shake, Union Gap, The
Fourmost and The Honeycombes plus many more acts.

Full weekend tickets, which include admittance to five shows, are
priced £55 and are available from Whitby Pavilion box office on (01947) 604855.
