One of the Vietnam War's best-known survivors is bringing her message
of peace to St. Catharines.
Kim Phuc will be speaking at Bethany Community Church, 1388 Third
St., on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 6:45 p. m. and on Sunday, Nov. 2, at
9:30 a. m. and 11:10 a. m.
Phuc was captured in a photograph during the Vietnam War few ever forget.
As a young girl, her clothes were seared from her body by a napalm
bomb as she was pictured screaming from her burning village, Trang
Bang, in July 1972.
The photo later earned AP photographer Nick Ut a Pulitzer Prize for
epitomizing the tragedy of the war.
Phuc now uses her notoriety to speak for peace, said a news release
issued Tuesday.
After settling in Canada in 1992, Phuc became a Goodwill Ambassador
for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization, and founded the Kim Foundation in Chicago, which
provides help to innocent victims of war.
