A nonprofit watchdog organization issued a report stating that the
controversial community activist group Associated Community
Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) has not paid some of its taxes,
despite being a proponent of higher taxes.

The Capital Research Center (CRC), headquartered in Washington, D.C.,
is a nonpartisan organization which was established in 1984 to study
and analyze nonprofit organizations that promote the growth of
government. It "identifies viable private alternatives to government
regulatory and entitlement programs," according to their Web site.

Matthew Vadum, a CRC senior analyst, compiled the report titled,
"ACORN: Who Funds the Weather Underground's Little Brother," which
reveals that ACORN's tax problems. The title Vadum said is a
reference to ACORN's relationship with the Weather Underground.

"Not that ACORN believes in violence - they expressly do not believe
in violence. It is that they both (ACORN and Weather Underground)
come out of the same cluster of Student for a Democratic Society
radical protest groups," he said. "ACORN is like their little cousin."

He recently discovered that ACORN has millions of dollars in
outstanding tax liabilities due. Liens for these unpaid tax
liabilities have been filed by government tax collectors - both
federal and state. These liens are not only against ACORN they are
against ACORN's "affiliate" groups.

"Ironically, ACORN and its affiliates, all reliable cheerleaders for
higher taxes," Mr. Vadum wrote, "are longtime tax deadbeats. The most
recent lien, in the amount of $23,383, was filed by the IRS against
an ACORN affiliate, American Workers Associates Inc., on Sept. 9, 2008."

Some of the liens mentioned in the report are:

* A $ 99,219 lien by the Internal Revenue Service against Assoc.
Community Organizations for Reform Now, dated 7/30/2008;

* A $1,468 lien by the New York State Commissioner of Labor Assoc.
Community Organizations for Reform Now, dated July 25, 2006

* $1,390 lien by the State of Pennsylvania against Assoc. Community
Organizations for Reform Now.

Mr. Vadum located 240 liens totaling approximately $3.7 million
against ACORN's address on Elysian Fields Avenue in New Orleans, La.
