It's one of the few trends that never really goes out of fashion.
Hippy chic, otherwise known as boho chic or more recently festival
chic, is one of the most summer-friendly trends you can find.
While we might not benefit from a sun- splitting Californian summer,
these bright and beautiful clothes will be sure to put a smile on
your face whatever the weather.
This summer forget that gilet-clad, Sienna Miller look associated
with the boho trend that seemed so popular two years ago. Instead,
pick out hippy styles that reflect the true spirit of the 1970s, but
that also have a modern aesthetic, as seen on the Gucci catwalk.
Intricate embroidery remains a big trend for this summer, so look out
for tops, skirts and dresses that are covered in colourful floral
patterns. Prints are also a great way to try out this trend, but just
remember to opt for cotton rather than silk, less you should end up
looking more like a fairytale heroine than a free-spirited, music-loving type.
If you want to maintain an aura of modernity, dress up classic hippy
garments with contemporary pieces, such as straight leg jeans or
pencil skirts. In terms of footwear, if you really can't give up high
heels, opt for wedges, which will give your outfit a softer look.
For more ideas have a look at our three outfits below.
Hippy chick
Blazing a hippy trail this summer is going to be a lot easier than
you think - and you won't even have to dress up in a silly furry
gilet to complete the look. This simple cotton summer top by
Warehouse, available at John Lewis (£40), is a great way to try out
this trend. To create a simple, relaxed weekend outfit, pair the top
with these on-trend straight leg jeans by Ted Baker (£85). Add some
city-slicking style to this look with this navy blue blazer by
Penelope and Monica Cruz for Mango (£105). Roll up the sleeves of the
blazer to give your outfit some added oomph.

Hippy, hippy shake
While hippy chic is right back in fashion once again this summer,
that doesn't mean to say that you have to walk about looking like a
1970s throwback for the next few months. To trick to carrying this
look off is understanding that garments with hippy detailing on them
look even better when paired with simple, modern styles. So, taking
the same embroidered Warehouse top, try pairing it with this classic
navy blue pencil skirt from Mango (£20). To finish off the outfit all
you need now is a pair of suitable high heels. These canvas wedge
sandals from Mango (£60) would be ideal.

Hippy go lucky
On the catwalks, hippy styles were mixed with cool rock'n'roll looks
to give this trend a more tough edge.
To recreate the same idea with your own wardrobe look out for urban
colours, such as grey and black, to pair with your floral hippy
garments. Taking the same Warehouse embroidered cotton top, try
pairing it with these fantastic skinny grey jeans by Mango (£29). The
jeans are cropped at the ankle making them ideal for wearing in
summer. Finish off the look by adding a spot of colour with these
marbled red beads, also from Mango (£14).
