This Weekend Only:
Abbie Hoffman Died For Our Sins Theatre Festival
http://chicagoist.com/2009/08/14/this_weekend_only_abbie_hoffman_die.php
If you find yourself without plans at any given point this weekend,
you're in luck: No matter what time it is, you can check out a play.
Starting tonight at 7:15, Mary-Arrchie Theatre Company will host more
than 50 companies in a non-stop theatre marathon until midnight on
Sunday. The plays' lengths vary from ten minutes to an hour, and
attendees can come and go as they please.
Originally started to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Woodstock,
the Abbie Hoffman Festival is in its 21st year. The fun started
earlier today, when participants gathered at Daley Plaza and began
marching to Mary-Arrchie's space, Angel Island. It's a pretty long
walk, so if you see them, be nice. Opening ceremonies start at 7pm -

AbbieFest XXI schedule (for now)

by Kris Vire
August 13th, 2009
The schedule for Abbie Hoffman Died For Our Sins, the annual
weekend-long orgy of off-the-cuff theater that returns for its 21st
outing this week, is notoriously slippery. When you're running
50-plus straight hours of back-to-back-to-back offerings, after all,
things don't always go according to a strict plan. Not that
AbbieFest's scheduling could really be called "strict"; finding
nothing on fest runner Mary-Arrchie's website, I asked producer Rich
Cotovsky for the lineup. He obliged with the latest draft, which
still, just two days out from the fest's kickoff, contains large
chunks of "TBA."
Some of that's presumably buffer time for getting back on track if
there are delays, but I suspect it's also because, as of this
revision, it appears many presenters still had yet to determine names
or running times for their works. Really, that's more in keeping with
Abbie's vibe of mellow entropy than something as stuffy as
"requesting a schedule." Perhaps AbbieFest is best enjoyed
catch-as-catch-can; the passes encourage come-and-go-and-come back
with a fresh six-pack behavior, after all. For those planners among
us, the latest info is after the jump; I can't stress the words
subject to change strongly enough.
