The influential comics artist Robert Crumb, best known for such outré
works as "Keep On Truckin' " and "Fritz the Cat," is exploring a
surprising new topic in his latest work: the Bible. For "The Book of
Genesis Illustrated," Mr. Crumb incorporated a variety of sources,
including the King James Version, to re-create the Bible's first
book. Mr. Crumb, who lives in the south of France with his wife and
daughter, was the subject of the 1994 documentary "Crumb." He was
largely responsible for the "underground comix" movement of the 1960s
that set the stage for many of the comics' greatest contemporary
works, such as Art Spiegelman's "Maus." At left, an excerpt from "The
Book of Genesis Illustrated." [See URL]
