AFROS and bell-bottoms will be the "in thing" this weekend as the
Sixties Party takes over East London.

The hype for this annual event picked up last week when organisers
Zolani and Anele Nonxuba hosted a number of Sixties Meltdown parties
in Port Elizabeth, Mthatha and Queenstown.

A pre-party before the big day on Saturday has been planned for
Friday, at which DJ Mahoota will be launching his new album.
According to Zolani, Mahoota, a member of kwaito outfit Trompies,
will be playing alongside Leeby and Jenerik Soulz at both Bar Kulcha
and Xanadu Lounge in Berea on the night before the event at Gonubie
Showgrounds on Saturday.

"People will be able to enjoy the artists in the venue of their
choice as both places offer something different," said Zolani.

About 20 DJs, including Fistaz Mixwell, Tbo Touch, Lulo Cafe, Andy X,
Mo Flava and Giggs Superstar are due to perform on Saturday.

This will be the third year East London hosts the Sixties Party, the
last two events being at a farm near the airport.

However, Zolani says the venue has been changed for the convenience
of patrons.

"Its a bigger venue and more accessible to people and it has a
concrete surface, a fact that ladies who wear heels would enjoy, as
the previous venue had only grass on it."

The Sixties Party, an event that started in Mafikeng in the North
West province a couple of years ago, is known for big parties that
are held before the main event.

Party animals usually come dressed up in retro outfits.

Interest in the event has grown so much that Sixties Parties have
also been held in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban.

"East London has always been very supportive of this event and this
year is also going to be even bigger," said Zolani.

Tickets for the show are available at Shoprite/Checkers at R130 each
and R180 for VIP entry, which includes finger snacks, and R700 for
royal tickets, which include a bottle of champagne and free drinks.
