Bestselling author Dr. Rita Mae Brown will be a featured speaker at
Fenway Health's Ansin Building on May 21 when staff and audience
gather to celebrate 39 years of women's health at Fenway.
Former Fenway Health Board Chair Joanne Ayoub will facilitate the
discussion. Dr. Brown, who is best known for her first novel, 1973's
"Rubyfruit Jungle," and who is also a member of Fenway Health's Board
of Visitors, will discuss her life experiences in the American Civil
Rights Movement. Brown was also active in the anti-war movement, the
gay and lesbian movement, and the feminist movement. She participated
in the Stonewall riots and has been known to say, "You can hurt me,
you can hate me, but do it because you know me, not because I'm a
member of a group."
Audience members will learn about Fenway's future plans for women's
health at the event. 2010 began the official Decade of Women at
Fenway. For more information, please visit www.fenwayhealth.org.
