DIRECTOR HEAD TO BED-STUY FOR CHILLIN ON DA CORNER
New York, NY (July 15, 2010) – Tuesday, July 20th, 2010 actor
Ephraim Benton and his "Chillin on da Corner & Beyond" screening
series present award winning documentary "Malcolm's Echo: the Legacy
of Malcolm X" directed by Dami Akinnusi. "Malcolm's Echo", a
festival favorite is a powerful and timely discussion on how Malcolm
X's thoughts and philosophies are being used as a foundation to
create a new vision. The film looks beyond the stereotypes of Malcolm
X and attempts to understand the real message of his legacy echoed
through those who knew him. The evening screenings will be held at
the New Testament Church of God 904 Myrtle Ave @ Tompkins Ave in the
heart of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
Hosted by Ephraim Benton,Tuesday evening's line up includes 4 short
films, and a music video along with the featured documentary. "A
Ticket for Hope" directed by Miles Maker "The View From Madison
St","Books Not Bars", "Tom Burrell's Resolution Project" and "The
Light" complete the program along with words from directors Dami
Akinnusi and Miles Maker.
As a co-founder and producer of CODC; Ephraim Benton says "Dami has
created an amazing documentary that captures the reverberation of a
great man whose message stands the test of time and is equally if not
more powerful in today's society". Benton asserts "This film series
will start conversations, open minds, inspire new film makers and
bring out fellow supporters and role models within the community."

Festival Audience Favorite Award, official selection at BET
UrbanWorld Film Festival, a nomination for Independent Spirit Award
for Best Director at The Screen Nation Awards UK, and African Movie
Academy Award 2009 (African Oscars) – Winner for Best Documentary.
Miles Maker director of "A Ticket for Hope" also operates as producer
for "Spare Change" which is premiering on July 28th at the 11th
annual New York International Latino Film Festival (the trailer will
be premiered at the Tuesday 7/20 screening). Benton himself featured
in "Precious" and star of "Inside a Change" the 2009 NYILFF best film
winner stands by this mission. Come sundown, rain or shine on
Tuesday July 20th The New Testament Church of God in Bedford
Stuyvesant becomes the backdrop for independent film and independent thinking.
